SOCIAL MINISTRY TASK FORCE
MISSION
To lead this congregation's efforts to address the social, economic, and emotional
needs of people both within the congregation and in the community at large. MEMBERSHIP
The committee will consist of up to six members of the congregation, including
at least one council member, and a chair ratified by the Congregation Council. RESPONSIBILITIES -
Study and make the congregation aware of material needs of people in the area
it serves.
- Conduct
programs, either as a congregation or in cooperation with other congregations
and institutions, that provide material and spiritual assistance to people who
are poor, hungry, or victimized.
- Lead
the congregation in active participation in the ELCA Hunger Program; provide for
education concerning hunger issues, provide opportunities for people to contribute
to the Hunger Appeal, and regularly report on the effects of relief efforts.
- Cooperate
in the work of Lutheran Social Service and serve as advocates in the congregation
for their work.
- Create
awareness of other agencies or institutions that seek to alleviate social problems
and human need; develop partnerships with them, inform congregational members
of their work, and/or provide opportunities for financial support, as appropriate.
- Develop
opportunities for members to offer their time and abilities in local social ministry
efforts; e.g. assisting Zion Caring Ministry, transportation for homebound members,
etc.
- Receive
and study social statement of the ELCA, develop means by which they can be discussed
in the congregation, and develop action plans based on such statements, as appropriate
TIME
COMMITMENT
The term of service is normally one year, renewable. The committee
meets as needed. ACCOUNTABILITY
AND REPORTING -
The committee will provide regular reporting of its accomplishments and recommendations
to the Congregation Council.

The committee will prepare a written report for the annual congregational meeting.

The committee will submit an annual budget request.
